I’m doing a much better job about staying on task and working on site-related tasks! This past week has seen the addition of link to my del.icio.us categories from each Niche! My orginaly plan was to create a self-updating link page, but del.icio.us has changed how they handle that, and my tech level isn’t high enough to play with the changes.
The good news is that in light of the problems I’m having, and my web guru’s lack of free time, I am now reading a couple of resources and trying to teach myself PHP. I taught myself HTML and CSS. This can’t be any harder than those, right? (If it makes anyone feel better, I have about two years of baby programming experience under my belt. They were over ten years ago, but helped me pick up HTML and CSS more quickly.)
I’m actually pleased with the work going on behind the scenes here at the moment. More of the website is coming together. The day I figure out how to syndicate the most recent posts from each of the Niche blogs to this page will be a definite cause for celebration! JewelryNiche has received its first two orders of the year- a stock piece and a comission. It is my intent to have Niche swag available as soon as I can, too!
So much to do, and I’m sitting here sipping hot chocolate and contemplating how two of my favorite past times are alike.

Well, the website is, at any rate!
It’s hard to believe that I’ve been working on this website for a year. At times, it’s been an in-my-spare-time thing. Right now, I’m in a phase where I’m trying to address anything I can so I can have a good, thorough list of what I can’t do when I next bug my web guru.
This week has seen the addition of blogrolls to most of the blogs! I don’t know why it took me so long to move them over from the old blogs, but I am very happy to say that I finally got the blogrolls up and running, and took the opportunity to purge abandoned or unread blogs from my Bloglines account!
This week, I’m looking toward a more deliberate navigation system and the inclusion of resource links on each Niche blog! I’m also reading up on syndicating the Niche blogs to this page for reading ease. I understand that many visitors are coming for a specific niche, but I know there are others who just like to read my stuff, so I’m trying to make things work well for both groups.
Thank you so much for your support. It keeps this place up and running!

People are often mistaking me for an archaeologist. I’m not. I promise I’m not. I wouldn’t turn down an opportunity to go on a dig as a volunteer, but I’m definitely not an archaeologist. If anything, I’m almost an amateur anthropologist. I spend more time reading folklore and researching science and religion practices for various ancient cultures than I do exploring tools and living structures.
It doesn’t change the fact that I only do it as a hobby.
The other day, I was reading one of the seven or so archaeology blogs I enjoy and came across this interesting articles on geoglyphs in Chile. Neighbors to the long-baffling Nazca lines in Peru, there are some theories now that these large bits of artwork may actually have been a means of communicating information to caravans who frequently travelled the area. I think it’s just fascinting to think that these lines might have served as a primitive form of information architecture.
So much for the LGM theory, right?

Last week, I was researching game card templates while trying to create the ID for my deviantArt account. I’m still without a deviantID, but I stumbled onto the most peculiar thing- Artist Trading Cards (ATCs).
Basically, these cards, roughly the size of a baseball card, have artwork on one side and information on the back. They’re traded with other artists. It’s an interesting way to collect art.
As I sat there thinking about these cards (and how they would apply to an artist who works with three-dimensional media), it occurred to me that these cards help promote networking among artists, and can even be a way to introduce your work to people, to make them aware of you.
I don’t think it would qualify as a business card, but I’m think they might make for an intereting and creative marketing tool…
